Mystery sphere washes up on beach

An unidentifiable object has washed up on a beach in Japan this week, prompting much speculation and debate about its origins.
Police and the bomb squad were called in to investigate the sphere, which is about 1.5m in diameter, after a woman spotted in on the beach in the city of Hamamatsu.
It was deemed not to be a threat after the area was cordoned off and X-Rays were carried out.

Police were called in to investigate the object. (Nine)
But authorities have been unable to identify the sphere, which was found to be hollow and is thought to be made of iron as it appears to be coated in rust.
Theories about wat the item could be have been sweeping social media, but many have suggested it is likely just a mooring buoy.
Suspicion around the harmless object is thought to have been heightened because its discovery has come amid a time of nervousness around unidentifiable objects, with the US shooting down a suspected Chinese spy balloon earlier this month.
