Trump says US will investigate EU trade practices, claiming the bloc unfairly fined tech giants

The United States will open a formal investigation into the European Union’s trade practices, US President Donald Trump said on Friday, claiming the bloc has unfairly levied billions of dollars of fines against Google, Apple and other US tech giants. The Republican president made the announcement a day after the EU hit Google with a fine of €890 million ($1.5 billion), after it said the technology behemoth broke digital antitrust regulations by setting up Google Play and its ubiquitous search engine to corral consumers toward its own services and apps to the detriment of competitors. Meta slashes 8000 jobs in $200 billion AI pivot

Meta's previously-reported 8000-strong job cuts have begun to roll out around the world, with affected employees being notifed from 4am in their local time zones. Last month, Meta confirmed the job cuts were in the works as part of a major AI-focused restructure. "We're doing this as part of our continued effort to run the company more efficiently and to allow us to offset the other investments we're making," Meta's chief people officer Janelle Gale said at the time in an internal memo to employees. The boss of a $52 billion investment bank has described a plan to slash 8000 jobs over the next four years as a reduction in "lower-value human capital". Standard Chartered chief executive Bill Winters told reporters this week there would be job "reductions in favour of machines, and that will accelerate as we go forward into AI (artificial intelligence)". "It's not cost-cutting," Winters said. Standard Chartered chief executive Bill Winters is planning to shed some of the company's "lower-value human capital". Elon Musk lashes out after top gaming commentator accuses him of cheating

Elon Musk has lashed out at a prominent YouTuber and gaming commentator after he accused the billionaire of cheating at video games. Earlier this week, content creator Zack Hoyt, better known as Asmongold, accused Musk of having other people play games under his name to boost his public rankings. Hoyt, among other gamers, thought it would be impossible for Musk to reach level 97 on Path of Exile 2 while running several companies. Elon Musk posted screenshots of DMs sent between himself and Asmongold. (AP) In the videos Musk has streamed of himself playing Path of Exile 2, gamers have noted he didn't seem anywhere near good enough at the game to reach that high ranking. "I'm completely convinced he didn't play the character," Asmongold said in his YouTube channe...
