Trump’s conflicting messages sow confusion over the Iran war

US President Donald Trump says the United States is winning the war with Iran even as thousands of additional American troops deploy to the Middle East. He has pilloried other countries for not helping the US, only to say later he does not need their assistance. He has twice delayed deadlines for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He has both threatened to "obliterate" Iran's energy plants if the vital waterway remains largely shuttered and said the US was "not affected" by the closure. Israel warns attacks on Iran ‘will escalate and expand’ as Trump claims advances in ceasefire talks

Israel threatened to "escalate and expand" its attacks on Iran on Friday, even as US President Donald Trump claimed talks on ending the war were going well and gave Tehran more time to open the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, meanwhile, gave no signs of backing down. With stock markets reeling and economic fallout from the war extending far beyond the Middle East, Trump is under growing pressure to end Iran's chokehold on the strait, a strategic waterway through which a fifth of the world's oil is usually shipped. Iran has rejected a 15-point US proposal for a ceasefire that includes it relinquishing control of the strait, but at the same time has ordered thousands more troops to the region — possibly in preparation for a military attempt to wrest the waterway from Iran. A first res...

Trump considering ‘winding down’ his war in Iran, but invasion plans reportedly being drafted

Donald Trump said he is considering winding down the war in Iran, even as reports emerge of the Pentagon planning a ground invasion. In a post on Truth Social this morning, Trump detailed his achievements since starting the war three weeks ago. "We are getting very close to meeting our objectives as we consider winding down our great Military efforts in the Middle East with respect to the Terrorist Regime of Iran," he said. Trump considering ground invasion of critical Iranian island: reports

Donald Trump is considering using ground troops to occupy Iran's strategically valuable Kharg Island, according to reports. Axios cited four sources as saying the Trump Administration was considering a blockade of the island or even landing troops there. A ground invasion, even of a small island off the coast of mainland Iran, would be seen as a major escalation of the war. The Trump Administration is reportedly considering an invasion of Kharg Island. (AP) When questioned about this outside the White House, Trump was coy. "I may have a plan, I may not," he said. "It's certainly a place that people are talking about. But I can't tell you that." The island had been untouched by the war until last Saturday, when it was targeted by a US airstrike. K...

Donald Trump lashes out at NATO ‘cowards’ for not joining war

Donald Trump has called America's NATO allies "cowards" for not involving themselves in the war in Iran. The president lashed out in an angry post on his Truth Social account. "Without the USA, NATO IS A PAPER TIGER!" he wrote. Donald Trump called his NATO allies "cowards" for not providing military support for his war with Iran. (AP) "They didn't want to join the fight to stop a Nuclear Powered Iran. Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don't want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. "So easy for them to do, with so little risk. COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER!" NATO, or the North Atla...

Iran war enters its third week as 2500 more US Marines are being sent to the region

The US-Israel war with Iran entered its third week on Saturday as a missile struck a helipad inside the US Embassy compound in Baghdad and debris from an intercepted Iranian drone hit an oil facility in the United Arab Emirates, further increasing global anxiety about oil supplies. Iran's joint military command threatened to attack cities in the UAE, home to Dubai and one of the world's busiest airports, saying the US used "ports, docks and hideouts" there to launch strikes on Iran's Kharg Island, without providing evidence. It called on people to immediately evacuate areas where it said US forces were sheltering, naming Jebel Ali port in Dubai — the Mideast's busiest — as well as Khalifa port in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah port. Plumes of smoke rise after debris from...
