Trump rages at some of his biggest former backers in lengthy Truth Social post

Donald Trump has lashed out at some of his most prominent former supporters in a long and angry post on Truth Social.
The president took aim at the intelligence, mental health, appearance and personal lives of prominent commentators who have criticised him in recent weeks.
Trump said Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens and Alex Jones were fighting him because they had “low IQs”.

The pundits were previously some of his biggest backers and host some of the most popular podcasts in America.
“They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too,” he said.
“They’ve all been thrown off Television, lost their Shows, and aren’t even invited on TV because nobody cares about them, they’re NUT JOBS, TROUBLEMAKERS, and will say anything necessary for some ‘free’ and cheap publicity.”
He said Carlson, formerly the most prominent person on Fox News, “couldn’t even finish college”.
“He was a broken man when he got fired from Fox, and he’s never been the same,” Trump said.
“Perhaps he should see a good psychiatrist.”

Carlson gave a lengthy broadcast highly critical of the president.
He took particular issue with Trump’s foul-mouthed Truth Social post made on Sunday.
“How dare you speak that way on Easter morning to the country?” Carlson said.
“Who do you think you are? You’re tweeting out the f-word on Easter morning.”
Trump cited the high-profile defamation trial in France, after Candace Owens accused French First Lady Brigitte Macron of being a man.
“Actually, to me, the First Lady of France is a far more beautiful woman than Candace, in fact, it’s not even close!” Trump wrote.
He took aim at Alex Jones for losing a lawsuit for claiming the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax.

Jones had called for the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, a mechanism to remove a president for no longer being able to discharge their duties.
“How do we 25th Amendment his ass?” Jones said.
“Trump literally sounds like an unhinged super villain from a Marvel comic movie.”
The president’s 482-word Truth Social post was made in the middle of the day, Washington time.
Trump’s approval rating has been sinking steadily since the beginning of his presidency with many Republicans unhappy with his war with Iran.
