FBI seeks interviews with Democrats who urged US troops to defy illegal orders

Democratic lawmakers who appeared in a social media video urging US troops to defy “illegal orders” say the FBI has contacted them to begin scheduling interviews, signaling a possible inquiry into the matter. It would mark the second investigation tied to the video, coming a day after the Pentagon said it was reviewing Democratic Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona over potential violations of military law. The FBI and Pentagon actions come after President Donald Trump accused the lawmakers of sedition and said it is “punishable by DEATH” in a social media post. Suspects charged in alleged terror plot cited ISIS and may have tried to replicate Paris terror attack on US soil, FBI says

Two men face federal charges for allegedly plotting an ISIS-inspired Halloween attack in the US – possibly on the scale of the 2015 Paris terror attacks that killed at least 130 people, authorities say. An FBI raid on Halloween morning stunned neighbors in Dearborn, the second-safest city in Michigan and home to the highest concentration of Arab Americans in the US. Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud face charges of "receiving and transferring, and attempting and conspiring to transfer, firearms and ammunition knowing and having reasonable cause to believe that the firearms and ammunition would be used to commit a Federal crime of terrorism," according to a criminal complaint. FBI now says driver responsible for deadly New Orleans rampage acted alone as Bourbon Street re-opens

The US Army veteran who drove a ute into a crowd of New Year's revellers acted alone, the FBI said on Thursday, reversing its position from a day earlier that he likely worked with others in carrying out the deadly attack, which officials say was an act of terrorism inspired by the Islamic State (IS) group. The FBI also revealled that the driver, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas, posted five videos on his Facebook account in the hours before the attack in which he aligned himself with IS and told viewers that he had joined the militant group before last summer. "This was an act of terrorism. It was premeditated and an evil act," said Christopher Raia, the deputy assistant director of the FBI's counterterrorism division.
