Bad buildings, biological weapons and killing cows: Trump’s most notable lines at the UN

US President Donald Trump's hour-long address at the United Nations General Assembly in New York was full of mockery, bizarre tangents and praises for his own accomplishments. He spent a considerable amount of time criticising the UN for its "bad teleprompter and bad building" and failure to stop international conflicts, leaving it up to him to end seven "unendable" wars. Maybe his most shocking line was when he told world leaders, "Your countries are going to hell" if they did not crack down on migration. Here is a compilation of some of the president's most notable lines. 'Whoever's operatin...

Macron forced to walk NYC streets as Trump motorcade blocks traffic

Traffic during the United Nations General Assembly in New York can be brutal—even for presidents. French President Emmanuel Macron suddenly found himself stranded on the sidewalk Monday night. That's because President Donald Trump's motorcade had the street on lockdown. Macron picked up the phone and called Trump to jokingly complain about the gridlock. Macron called the US president when he was blocked by his motorcade. (TikTok) "How are you? Guess what? I'm waiting in the street because everything is closed for you," Macron says on the call. Eventually, the barricades opened for pedestrians, but not for cars. Macron had to keep the call going while walking to the French embassy. And if that wasn't unusual enough, a bystander seized the opportunity f...

NYC Mayor Eric Adams charged with taking bribes and illegal campaign funds from foreign sources

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on charges that he took illegal campaign contributions and bribes from foreign nationals in exchange for favours that included helping Turkish officials get fire safety approvals for a new diplomatic building in the city. Adams, a former police officer, faces conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery charges in a five-count indictment that describes a decade-long trail of crimes. The US attorney's office in Manhattan alleges in the indictment that Adams "not only accepted, but sought illegal campaign contributions" to his mayoral campaign. A senior official in the Turkish diplomatic establishment "facilitated many straw donations" to Adams and arranged for Adams and his companions to receive free or discounted travel on Turkey's nationa...
Judge holds Trump in contempt, fines him $13,900 and raises threat of jail in hush money trial

Judge holds Trump in contempt, fines him $13,900 and raises threat of jail in hush money trial

Former United States president Donald Trump has been held in contempt of court and fined US$9000 ($13,864) for repeatedly violating a gag order that barred him from making public statements about witnesses, jurors and some others connected to his New York hush money case. If he does it again, the judge warned on Tuesday, he could be jailed. Prosecutors had alleged 10 violations, but New York Judge Juan M Merchan found there were nine. The ruling was a stinging rebuke for the Republican former president, who had insisted he was exercising his free speech rights. Merchan wrote that Trump "is hereby warned that the Court will not tolerate continued wilful violations of its lawful orders and that if necessary and appropriate under the circumstances, it will impose an inc...

New York City subway train derails in collision with another train, injuring more than 20 people

A New York City subway train derailed on Thursday (Friday AEDT) after colliding with another train at low speed, leaving more than 20 people with minor injuries and causing major service disruptions across Manhattan during the afternoon rush hour, authorities said. At about 3pm (7am AEDT) on the Upper West Side, a 1 train carrying about 300 passengers and an out-of-service Metropolitan Transportation Authority train with four workers on board hit each other near the 96th Street station, police and transit officials said at the scene. A “derailment” happens when at least one wheel of a train leaves the track. The collision knocked out service on the 1, 2 and 3 lines in most of Manhattan, the MTA said. Crews were working on Thursday night to clear the tracks and hoping t...
