US seizes Russian-flagged oil tanker linked to Venezuela

The US says it has seized two sanctioned oil tankers linked to Venezuela after in back-to-back actions in the North Atlantic and the Caribbean, officials said on Wednesday. Originally called the Bella 1, the tanker was sanctioned by the US in 2024 for operating within a "shadow fleet" of tankers transporting illicit oil. US European Command announced the seizure of the merchant vessel Bella 1 for "violations of US sanctions". A Coast Guard cutter had pursued the tanker into the waters between Scotland and Iceland after it tried to avoid being ensnared by the US blockade on sanctioned oil vessels around Venezuela. Trump says US to get up to 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela at market price

President Donald Trump said “interim authorities” in Venezuela would sell between 30 million and 50 million barrels of “high quality” oil to the US at its market price. “I have asked Energy Secretary Chris Wright to execute this plan, immediately,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “It will be taken by storage ships, and brought directly to unloading docks in the United States.” Trump said the money would be controlled by him as president, but would be used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States. Venezuela denounces Trump’s order for ship blockade as ‘warmongering threats’

Getty Images US President Donald Trump has ordered "a total and complete" blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela - a move denounced by Caracas as "warmongering threats". Trump wrote that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's government had been designated a foreign terrorist organisation (FTO), which had also engaged in "Drug Smuggling, and Human Trafficking". His remarks come after the US seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela last week, a significant action in light of the South American nation's reliance on oil. Trump demands NATO countries stop buying Russian oil

US President Donald Trump says he believes the Russia-Ukraine war would end if all NATO countries stopped buying oil from Russia and placed tariffs on China of 50 per cent to 100 per cent for its purchases of Russian petroleum.
