Popular UK city to tax tourists for overnight stays

Local politicians in Edinburgh have approved a tourist tax for visitors staying overnight the Scottish capital, introducing the first charge of its kind in the United Kingdom. From mid-2026, visitors staying in certain types of accommodation, such a hotel, bed and breakfast, hostel, self-catering apartment or guest house, will be charged a fee of five per cent of their accommodation cost per night. Ukraine launched the British-French-made Storm Shadow missiles at targets inside Russia for the first time today, according to a Russian military blog and Reuters, a day after Ukraine fired US-made ATACMS missiles into Russia. Ukraine says Russia has launched an intercontinental ballistic missile targeting Dnipro city in the central-east of the country, the first time Moscow has used such a missile in the war. It wasn't clear exactly what type of missile was fired overnight, but Ukraine's air force said in a statement on Telegram on Thursday that it was launched from Russia's Astrakhan region. King Charles’ first official portrait vandalised by activists

Activists from an animal rights group have vandalised the first official portrait of King Charles, which is on display in a London gallery. Campaign group Animal Rising posted a video on its social media channels on Tuesday showing two activists using a paint roller to stick signs over the portrait of the monarch.
