Public release of Epstein records puts Maxwell under fresh scrutiny amid her claims of innocence

Days after Ghislaine Maxwell asked a judge to immediately free her from a 20-year prison sentence, the public release of grand jury transcripts from her sex trafficking case returned the spotlight to victims whose allegations helped land her behind bars. The disclosure of the transcripts as part of the Justice Department’s ongoing release of its investigative files on Maxwell and the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein exposed how an FBI agent told grand jurors about Maxwell's critical role in Epstein’s decades-long sexual abuse of girls and young women. Maxwell, a British socialite and publishing heir, was convicted of sex trafficking in December 2021 after four women told a federal jury in New York City about how she and Epstein abused them in the 1990s and early 2000s. ...

Trump bemoans destroyed reputations from Epstein files in first public comments since DOJ release

President Donald Trump bemoaned on Monday the potential reputational damage inflicted on people who appear in photos released as part of the Jeffrey Epstein files, which he insisted were only made public because of an effort to distract from his accomplishments. The comments mark the first time Trump has addressed the files since his Justice Department released hundreds of thousands of them on Friday pursuant to a new law compelling them to do so. The measure cleared both the House and Senate with support from all but one Republican and Trump signed it into law; his administration had previously said it did not plan to release any more Epstein materials after a thorough review. US Justice Department can unseal records from Epstein’s 2019 sex trafficking case, judge says

Secret grand jury transcripts from Jeffrey Epstein's 2019 sex trafficking case can be made public, a US judge has ruled, joining two other judges in granting the Justice Department's requests to unseal material from investigations into the late financier's sexual abuse. US District Judge Richard M Berman reversed his earlier decision to keep the material under wraps, citing a new law that requires the government to open its files on Epstein and his longtime confidant Ghislaine Maxwell. The judge previously cautioned that the 70 or so pages of grand jury materials slated for release are hardly revelatory and "merely a hearsay snippet" of Epstein's conduct. Jeffrey Epstein was a notorious child sex trafficker and friend to many powerful people. (US Attorney of the Southern D...

The Epstein files: What can we expect to learn once they are released?

US President Donald Trump called the Epstein files a "Democratic hoax" for months, but now his Justice Department has been ordered to publicly release them - and it's just his signature that stands in the way. But what does that actually mean, and what comes next in the Jeffrey Epstein saga? The US House of Representatives voted 427-1 in favour of publicly releasing all Justice Department investigative files into the convicted sex offender on Tuesday (US time). Trump, who railed against releasing the Epstein files before suddenly changing his tune this week, said he would sign the bill if...

The controversial ex-cop who was the only ‘no’ in the Epstein vote

Both Democrats and Republicans readied for a unanimous vote this morning to pass a bill that would force a release of the case files relating to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But in the end, one man stood alone in opposition: Republican Representative Clay Higgins. Higgins, who is in his fifth term representing a congressional district in south-west Louisiana, explained in a lengthy statement that he was "a principled 'NO' on this bill from the beginning". US Senate unanimously agrees to send Epstein files bill to Trump’s desk once it’s received from House

The US Senate has unanimously agreed to pass the House-backed bill forcing the Justice Department to release its Epstein case files, as soon as it is received from the chamber. The Senate, having adopted it by unanimous consent, will not have to take any further action, and the bill will be transmitted to President Donald Trump's desk as soon as it arrives to the Senate. It was not immediately clear when the legislation would be received in the Senate. In this July 30, 2008, file photo, Jeffrey Epstein, centre, appears in court in West Palm Beach, Fla.
