Far-right Israeli minister prays at Jerusalem’s most sensitive holy site, breaching decades-old agreement

A far-right Israeli minister has sparked outrage after leading a group of worshippers in prayer at the most sensitive holy site in Jerusalem, despite a decades-old agreement that bars Jews from worshipping there. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who has previously been convicted for supporting terrorism and inciting anti-Arab racism in Israel, commemorated Tisha B'Av, a Jewish day of mourning, in the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, known to Jews as Temple Mount. On Tisha B'Av, Jews mark the destruction of two ancient temples that once stood on the land. Mayor Andrei Proshunin Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin posted a photo on Sunday afternoon, saying the blaze was extinguished A massive oil depot fire near Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi has been blamed by Moscow on an overnight Ukrainian drone attack. Krasnodar region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said drone debris hit a fuel tank and 127 firefighters were on Sunday tackling the blaze, which was later put out. The airport near Sochi - the venue of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games - briefly suspended flights. Meanwhile, Russia again bombed a key bridge in Ukraine's southern city of Kherson, killing one man, local officials said. In nearby Mykolaiv, seven people were injured and several homes destroyed. Russian volcano erupts for first time in more than 500 years

A volcano in far eastern Russia has erupted for the first time in more than 500 years, which experts say may be linked to last week's massive earthquake. The Krasheninnikov Volcano in Kamchatka threw up an ash plume up to six kilometres (3.7 miles) high overnight. There are no threats to populated areas, Russia's emergency ministry said. Hours later, another large earthquake in Russia led to tsunami warnings in three areas of the peninsula. Both events may be connected to a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake which hit a similar area last week, which caused tsunami warnings as far away as French Polynesia and Chile. Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Russian news agency RIA published pictures of the huge ash plume above the Krasheninnikov Volcano, following the eru...

Australia faces nervous wait as Trump’s tariff deadline looms

Australia is no closer to learning whether it will be hit by a higher tariff by the United States, despite President Donald Trump saying he'll be handing down fresh duties later this week. The so-called "reciprocal" tariffs were paused for 90 days, and the White House has recently announced deals with a slew of partners, including the UK, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and, as of this morning, the European Union. However, an Australian deal is yet to be announced ahead of the pause expiring on Friday. Donald Trump's tariffs have caused uncertainty in financial markets. US Authorities seek to file terrorism and assault charges against suspect in Walmart knife attack

A man accused of entering a Walmart in the United States and randomly stabbing 11 shoppers before being detained by bystanders in the store parking lot is expected to face terrorism and multiple assault charges, US authorities said. Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea said a motive behind the attack by Bradford Gille, 42, of Afton, Michigan, remains unclear. Gille, who Shea said had "prior assaultive incidents as well as controlled substance violations," said very little as he was arrested. The man is expected to be charged with one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder. Police tape is seen outside a Walmart where multiple people were stabbed in the alleged violent attack (AP) Shea praised the quick response by law officers who arr...

There is a larger problem for Trump in the Epstein chaos

Analysis: Ezra Klein begins one of his recent podcasts by telling a joke that has been making the rounds. Basically, a conspiracy theorist dies and ascends to heaven. God is there to greet him and explains that as part of the celestial welcome, he will answer any question the man has, writes American journalist and commentator Fareed Zakaria "Please, I must know the answer to this one," the man says, "who killed John F. Kennedy?" God answers instantly, "That's easy: Lee Harvey Oswald." Shocked, the man murmurs, "This goes higher than I had thought!" This is the dilemma in which Donald Trump finds himself. Whatever he does to deflect and distract from the Jeffrey Epstein morass only deepens the suspicions — including those about the two men's relationship. President Donald Tr...
